The International Day of Happiness.

Friday, March 20th is the International Day of Happiness.

They are suggesting three positive steps that we can take:

Keep Calm.

Stay wise.

Be kind.

I can’t think of better advice or anything more positive we could do during these uncertain times as we grapple with this pandemic caused by the coronavirus.

We should keep Calm

These are chaotic times. A lot of uncertainty is swirling around leaving us feeling as if we have no control over our lives. The fact is, there are lots of things we don’t have control over. We certainly have no direct control over how long this coronavirus pandemic is going to last nor do we have control over the economic carnage it will leave in its wake.

But do you know what we have control over?

How we respond!

Some of us, because of the current situation, are gripped by anxiety and fear. Now would be a good time to breathe. Catch your breath and focus on the positive things you can do to get through this.

That would be a sensible thing to do.

Stay wise

We all know that every choice we make has consequences. When we operate from a narrow perspective, we tend to make decisions that only serve our own self-interest. Operating from a broad perspective gives you the ability to see multiple aspects of a situation and as a result, make decisions that will have a positive impact on those around you.

We have to be mindful of that and pay closer attention to the decisions that we make and the actions that we take. This is especially important as we confront this infectious virus.

The onus is on each of us to make choices that will help everyone.  Each of us needs all of us. All of us need each of us.

Let’s choose positive actions that support our wellbeing and at the same time let’s encourage and help others to do the same.

That’s the kind thing to do.

Be Kind

Be friendly, generous, and considerate.

Including to yourself.

Perhaps you are so frustrated by what is going on that you feel like lashing out against yourself instead of taking out your frustration on others around you. This is a time to speak gently and kindly to yourself. It is time to take care of yourself.

It is time to take care of others as well. In this age of social distancing, some people are going to feel lonely and vulnerable. Make time to reach out to them. We’re all in this together so connect with them and reassure them that they are not alone.

So remember…

Keep calm.

Stay wise.

Be kind.

Keep On Pushing!
